As many of the spaces were vast, architectural optics and panoramic techniques were utilised together with close ups of architectural details. Twilight imagery showed the illuminated aspects of the building as darkness fell. The spaces were also recorded as 360 degree images to produce a fully interactive tour of the building with clickable details and information panels.

There were some technically difficult angles to capture, so stitch techniques with architectural lenses were used.

The virtual tour required a methodical approach to ensure it functioned for consumer use while still creatively showcasing the design of the building.

outcome

The photographs and virtual tour showcase this impressive new teaching facility and all of its architectural wonders.

brief

Galliford Try commissioned me to undertake stills photography and a virtual tour of the North East Futures University Technical College located in Stephenson Square, Newcastle upon Tyne. Situated on part of the former George Stephenson’s engineering works the building encompasses parts of the 19th century architecture within a new contemporary school. The client wanted the architectural imagery to portray the build quality and impressive spaces whilst showing the students using the building.

“We have always found Andrew to be very responsive to our requests and his work is of the highest caliber – even if that means he makes repeat visits to capture the image/setting he desires.”
