durham university teaching and learning centre
client: galliford try construction
architect: faulkner brown
brief
Galliford Try were commissioned to build a new education centre at the world-famous Durham University. They required a comprehensive range of architectural photographs and a virtual tour of the building

execution
It was a really exciting project to photograph and I had multiple site visits to capture the building at different times with different uses (with and without students). I liaised with the Project Director to work around the construction workers during their snagging operations, adhering to health and safety guidelines.
There were some technically difficult angles to capture, so stitch techniques with architectural lenses were used.
The virtual tour required a methodical approach to ensure it functioned for consumer use while still creatively showcasing the design of the building.
outcome
The images were used on the website, including the homepage and a dedicated project area, as well as printed material and case studies.
As specified in the brief, photographs were also used for award entries including a shortlist for the North East Property Awards – Design Excellence (winner TBA 17/09/2020) and five shortlists for the Constructing Excellence North East Awards (Building Project of the Year, Innovation, Sustainability, Digital Construction and the Integration & Collaborative Working awards).

take a virtual tour
The tour will roll through the rooms automatically. You may use your mouse to zoom in/out, move around each room and click on hotspots to take you to other spaces, gallery to view stills, video and information panel.

feedback
“We have always found Andrew to be very responsive to our requests and his work is of the highest calibre – even if that means he makes repeat visits to capture the image/setting he desires. We’ve recently used two of the images on a bid where experience in successful delivery of quality brickwork was a requirement.”
Martin Armitage, Business Development Director, Galliford Try Construction
