dame margaret barbour building
client: gss architecture
brief
I was commissioned by GSS Architecture to photograph the 97,000 sqft six-storey new teaching and learning building at Newcastle University. The Dame Margaret Barbour Building provides education facilities available for use by the whole University, along with specialist spaces for Sport and Exercise Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, the School of Psychology and the School of Medical Education. The client asked me to provide short videos in each space to demonstrate the flow of poeple using the building.

execution
Using architectural photography techniques I produced a collection of images, video and drone imagery that bring this fantastic building to life. I visited the site several times to capture different lighting conditions at daytime and twilight. The inclusion of students and staff showcases the architectural features and brings movement to images.
outcome
The images are used on the GSS website, including the homepage and a dedicated project area, as well as printed material and case studies. The images are used for award submissions including the Constructing Excellence in the North East awards when the building won the award for Integration and Collaborative Working.

videography and drone
An additional commison to produce a walk through with the architect Jonathan Hunter.
