carnegie school of sport – leeds beckett university
client: galliford try construction
architect: sheppard robson
brief
I was commissioned by Galliford Try Construction to photograph the new world class £45m Carnegie School of Sport at Leeds Beckett University. The building includes an indoor 80m sprint track that has dedicated performance analysis facilities, as well as research laboratories and a wellbeing studio. There are five lecture theatres, and the building can cater for 1600 students at capacity.

execution
The new facility sits amongst a number of historic buildings at the Headingley Campus. The indoor running track encased in red anodised panels with a section of muscle was the central feature that produced the wow factor and my client asked me to highlight the cantilever construction. Galliford Try like to see wide views of the spaces but with inclusion of architectural details the series tell a story of the whole building.
outcome
The images have been used for websites and other online activity and have also been used for many ward entries. The building was shortlisted for the Architects’ Journal (AJ Architecture) Awards and RIBA Yorkshire Awards.
