Project Description: Mount Grace Priory Cafe
Client: Brims
The project
I was commissioned by Brims to capture the recently completed contemporary style cafe which was constructed within the grounds of the 14th century Carthusian Monastery. The cafe was designed to reach out into the landscape natural materials and to reflect those used within the historic buildings which are managed by English Heritage.
The imagery needed to show how the building sat in a harmonious way within the natural surroundings and how it can be viewed almost by surprise as the visitor journeys from the parking area to the Monastery entrance. With careful planning, I was able to capture the structure through the woodland early in the morning whilst the light illuminated the front east facing elevation. Detailed images were important to show the traditional materials and building techniques.
We first met and worked with Andrew in 2008, he took images of our first completed projects and has continued to do so on everything else we’ve done to date. He understands what we want to see, how we will use it and knows how to capture it. His work is of the highest standard and always receives positive feedback from not just ourselves, but also our clients.”
